There are many causative factors for ingrowing toe nails. The can be a result of incorrect cutting, trauma, involuting nails where the sides of the nail naturally grow down into the flesh either side of the nails which can persistently aggravate the softer tissue of the toe. The skin becomes inflamed, bulbous and can be very painful.
Following a full patient assessment, South Devon Foot Clinic is able to recommend the most suitable treatment to relieve the infection. Should antibiotics be required, South Devon Foot Clinic is able to arrange a prescription for antibiotics to help deal with the infection. Once the infection has subsided and if conservative treatment is not able to help manage the condition, nail surgery may be proposed.
We regularly provide nail surgery from our clinic for ingrowing toenails. We can either remove part of the nail or the entire nail, this procedure may or may not involve the use of a chemical to permanently stop the nail from regrowing. Nail surgery requires the use of local anaesthetics and is a nurse assistance appointment. If we feel that you are a suitable candidate for this procedure, we shall propose the most appropriate surgery for you.
