The Nail Surgery Clinic

Toenails that are ingrown can cause significant discomfort and pain, and often lead to infection if left untreated. At The Nail Surgery Clinic, we specialise in the expert care and treatment of ingrowing toenails — a common and often distressing condition that can affect people of all ages. Our experienced podiatrists provide safe, effective treatments to relieve pain, prevent infection, and restore comfort.

Where conservative care is not sufficient to resolve the problem, we offer minor surgical procedures under local anaesthetic to permanently correct the nail and prevent recurrence. These treatments are quick, highly effective, and carried out in a sterile, professional environment to ensure optimal healing and long-term results.

If you’re struggling with an ingrown toenail or would like to book an appointment for nail surgery, please get in touch — our friendly team is here to help you take the first step towards pain-free, healthy feet.

Ingrowing toenails and nail surgery treatments

There are many causative factors for ingrowing toe nails. The can be a result of incorrect cutting, trauma, involuting nails where the sides of the nail naturally grow down into the flesh either side of the nails which can persistently aggravate the softer tissue of the toe. The skin becomes inflamed, bulbous and can be very painful.

Following a full patient assessment, South Devon Foot Clinic is able to recommend the most suitable treatment to relieve the infection. Should antibiotics be required, South Devon Foot Clinic is able to arrange a prescription for antibiotics to help deal with the infection. Once the infection has subsided and if conservative treatment is not able to help manage the condition, nail surgery may be proposed.

We regularly provide nail surgery from our clinic for ingrowing toenails. We can either remove part of the nail or the entire nail, this procedure may or may not involve the use of a chemical to permanently stop the nail from regrowing. Nail surgery requires the use of local anaesthetics and is a nurse assistance appointment. If we feel that you are a suitable candidate for this procedure, we shall propose the most appropriate surgery for you.

You may be able to claim for your recommended surgery via your private health insurance provider however it is important that you note, that payment will be required at point of booking or surgery. We recommend that you do the following to ensure that you are recompensed for the payments your make to
1. Gain pre-authorisation for a consultation.
2. After the consultation gain pre-authorisation for nail surgery.
3. Schedule a date and time for surgery suitable for you.
4. We may need to review the post operative wounds and dress the wound*. Please gain follow up pre-authorisation.

* Some insurance companies do not covered medication and dressing. Please check with your provider.

I found the service excellent. A previously diagnosed corn was indeed a verucca. Also three small corns identified under toe that I thought was an in growing nail. Don was great, gentle and reassuringly efficient. I have booked a follow up appointment and I am pain free. Thank you
